From Humble Beginnings to World Recordshumble beginning to world records
1974: It all began in the modest cafeteria "Bacchus" (バッカス) of Munetsugu Tokuji and his wife Naomi in Nagoya. Mrs. Munetsugu's homemade curry became so popular that they decided to specialize.
1978: Opening of the first "Curry House CoCo Ichibanya" in Nishibibajima-cho, in the suburbs of Nagoya, surrounded by rice fields. Locals said: "A restaurant can't work in such a place!"
The revelation: On the first day of opening, seeing the joy of the customers, the founder instantly abandoned his real estate business. He had found his calling: to serve the best curry in the world.
